A BODY OF ONE’S OWN

A BODY OF ONE’S OWN

un film de Marine Relinger - Société

Elise, 48 and living in Marseille, has Parkinson's disease. As the producer of a dance show in which she performs, I observe her relation to the world, to others. She talks to me about her body and her sensations. Filming becomes then an act of recognizing a gesture that invites us to unravel time, and find a new language to escape.

Elise Argaud, 48 and living in Marseille, has Parkinson's disease. She continues to practice contemporary dance, embarked by my side on the international tour of a show I produce. I decide to film her. As she talks to me about her relationship with her body, with others and with her environment, filming becomes an act of recognition of a gesture that invites us to unravel time, and of a language that finds a way to thwart power structures. When Elise isn't dancing, she's moving in a unique way, in a kind of dance, very gently. As she refuses the treatment because of its side-effects, the doctors sermons her. My camera composes with Elise's rhythm, with the movement of her thoughts, accompanying and supporting throughout the film the constant reinvention of her way of being part of the world and fighting against illness.
