LEON FLEISHER, LESSONS OF A MASTER

un film de Mark Kidel - Musiques / Théâtre / Danse

Leon Fleisher is one of the greatest pianists of our time. For a major part of his life he was unable to use his right hand, and the tragic circumstances in which this injury cut short a brilliant career and led to his rebirth as one of the world’s top high level piano teachers and an interpreter of the left hand keyboard repertoire was the subject of Mark Kidel’s award-winning documentary (Grand Prix Classiques en Image 2002).  Now that Leon Fleisher has recovered the use of both hands, and recorded a couple of highly praised CD’s, Mark Kidel has invited him to play and talk about some of his favourite pieces for the camera.  Filmed in one of the beautiful salons of the Fondation Singer-Polignac in Paris, a large room in which Stravinsky, Ravel and others played before him, Leon Fleisher will present works by Bach, Schubert, Chopin, Ravel and Debussy.
