THE NEW DEAL: THE MAN WHO CHANGED AMERICA

un film de Julia Bracher - Histoire

This film, exclusively based on archive footage, tells the incredible story of the audacious reforms made by one man. which might be a great source of inspiration for the current time and open minds for our common future.

The New Deal was a series of programs, regulations, public work projects, and financial reforms in the US between 1933 and 1939.

It is like a novel: great victories, failures, ruthless opponents, and a hero, who doesn't quite look like one: Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

The 1929 Great Depression hugely devastated the US and the American people. In 1932, 3 years after the Crash, the number of unemployed has skyrocketedfrom 1.5 million to 13 million – A quarter of the working population.

To stop misery in the country, one man, Franklin Delano Roosevelt – the President of the US - has a plan that seems simple: to restore hope. It's the New Deal, which sounds like an advertising slogan.

The New Deal was a series of programs, regulations, public work projects, and financial reforms in the US between 1933 and 1939.

The New Deal is like a novel: great victories, failures, ruthless opponents, and a hero, who doesn't quite look like one: Franklin Delano Roosevelt. A man whose legs are disabled, but who travels around the country to convince people. A middle-class man who is thirsty for social justice. He was expected to do everything, especially miracles. A position that no head of state can envy, because disappointment is often equal to hope.

The film is directed by Julia Bracher and produced for France 5 prime time slot. Orchestrating images of the past this film opens minds for our common future.
